Assured Hotels - recovery & relaunch

Supporting Hotel Owners - meet with us on a no obligation basis

Lockdown has presented our industry with many unprecedented challenges since late March, and as we now look to re-open our businesses and how best to attract and protect customers, whilst also ensuring safety of our teams, stakeholder investments and cash flows.

This will be a huge task and most likely will have to be performed initially with limited bedroom capacity, and in the case of some markets further restrictions potentially into 2021 may be needed to adopt ongoing social distancing restrictions.

Every location is different, and as an independent Hotel Advisory & Management business Assured Hotels are uniquely well placed to support hotel assets in all markets using the following key considerations and initiatives:

  1. Safe working practices - Assured Hotels have achieved COVID-19 Safe accreditation and have been working hard during lockdown with:
    • Common Sense Compliance - as our compliance partner we have worked through their training program and now have established COVID-19 Safe policies. Together CSC and AH can assist in delivering the training, policy and risk assessment required to support hotel operational teams. http://www.cs-compliance.co.uk/covid-19-accreditation/
    • Contactless Technology - with another partner Hoist we can introduce their suite of contactless solutions, including keyless locks and menu ordering apps.
    • UK Hospitality - as a member we are benefitting from UKH as one of the biggest engines for growth in the economy. Particularly important at this time to ensure that the industry's needs are effectively represented by engaging with Government. We therefore have access to a host of tools and resources, for example support in writing our risk assessments and updating practices throughout the recovery phase.
    • Quality in Tourism - AH are also working towards achieving the Safe, Clean & Legal accreditation, which has been updated to include COVID-19 specific procedures across all our operations - from the point of booking to cleanliness on property https://www.qualityintourism.com/quality-assessment/safe-clean-and-legal
  2. Operational plans & workable capacities - what is the optimum number of bedrooms in tandem with public areas that can be operated whilst achieving staff & guest safety to deliver profitable income, to include:
    • Staffing levels must include Multi Skilling the team
    • Documented & trained standards for reception and housekeeping, to include PPE
    • Food and beverage most likely only amounts to breakfast and in room dining
    • Supply chain to be re-established, with likely significant aged creditors to factor
    • Brand standards under a franchise or other agreement
  3. Government support - Constant review of support and funding so that reduced capacities do not translate into loss making scenarios - furlough scheme (JRS) is now clearly set out to end in October.
  4. Booking & marketing processes - clear communication on websites, 3rd party channels and confirmation communications so that Customer expectations are aligned with agreed operational plans.
  5. Cash flow forecast to be updated weekly and become the new "weekly flash" report, we are forecasting to at least Match 2021 to give visibility to the huge challenge of winter cash flow.

It's clear to us that planning of any reasonable expectation to relaunch is critical now, and whilst there may still be some unknowns any plan will have to be adaptable. That said we know a lot more now weeks into the crisis and we do see positives in our planning particularly with Government support from JRS extension and CBILS extended to many more lenders - trading costs must be tracked against revenues.

We also anticipate that the extended lockdown will create pent up demand from families, couples and individuals now keen to travel within the UK, so both leisure and business locations need to be able to demonstrate they have adapted will be ready to welcome these new and returning customers.
