"I was appointed as Administrator of St Mary's Hall Hotel on the Isles of Scilly in April 2009. After taking control of the day to day operations we turned our attention to improving the trading position while we marketed the hotel for sale. "We were in a very tricky situation when the hotel that myself and 20 or so others had invested in went into administration. We had purchased rooms in a buy-to-let hotel operation, but the freeholder/hotel management company was very inexperienced, and the business collapsed after only 12 months of trading (at a loss), leaving us with the very real possibility of losing our entire investment.

I contacted Mike Rothwell of Assured Hotels just before the administrators were appointed, and he calmly and constructively talked me through the possibilities of what to do next. He was not fazed by the particularly challenging and undesirable situation we found ourselves in, even though it was fraught with complications.

He visited the hotel and met with the existing management, at Assured's own time and expense, to gain an understanding of our problem.

Once the administrators were involved, they closed the hotel and advised that a feasibility study should be undertaken to ascertain whether or not the hotel should be re-opened.

They insisted that we approach 3 different companies to submit proposals, and after doing so, we all agreed that Assured had the right background and expertise to help salvage our collective investment.

We arranged for Assured to undertake a full review of the hotel's future viability, and Mike Rothwell and Gareth Pugh gave a detailed and well-researched presentation to the room owners and administrators. As a result, the room owners were sufficiently inspired and impressed by Assured to take control of the situation by purchasing the freehold from the administrators and appointing Mike to manage the re-branding and re-opening of the hotel.

During the next few months, Mike and his team worked so hard and remained positive, enthusiastic and encouraging throughout the many obstacles we faced.

This Herculean task is almost complete - the hotel is now scheduled to re-open in a matter of weeks, and this huge achievement would not have been possible without Assured Hotels."
